A problematic fireplace became a ten-month transformation of an entire home.

The client was James Rallison, the creator of YouTube channel TheOdd1sOut, with over 19 million subscribers. He was a young creative who knew exactly how he wanted to live, even if his house hadn't caught up yet. The brief evolved naturally from our first conversations: a party house, year-round living, with personality to match its owner.

The scale of the living room set the tone for everything. A 17-foot ceiling demanded a design of equal confidence: four granite slabs craned in to create a ten-foot fireplace centrepiece, flanked by wood veneer bookcases that double as acoustic panels. Irish paint colours from Clements & Moore's Kraftsmann Collection ran throughout, a quiet thread connecting California to home.

The outdoor space was equally considered — a former stables converted to a tiki bar (the horses clearly left their party spirit behind), pergolas and sailcloths creating a garden made for long evenings.

Entry hall

Inside, a dedicated sound booth for recording, dressed with multicoloured acoustic panelling and vintage props from the owner's collection.

Family room

Moody, distinctive, and entirely his own.
